Episode Highlights

The David Goggins 4x4x48 Challenge

    • David Goggins wrote the book Can’t Hurt Me; it’s incredible!
    • You will run four miles every four hours for forty-eight hours during the challenge.
    • The challenge starts at 8 pm on Friday night through Sunday afternoon.
    • Overall, the challenge is a test of endurance, mental fortitude, and dedication.

How I Made Peace With The Facts of The 4x4x48 Challenge

    • Here are some facts I had to make peace with during the challenge:
      • I’ve never done anything like this before.
      • I have never run a marathon or completed a 10k.
      • However, I have been working out for the majority of my life.
      • I’m already in decent shape; all I have to do is make some adjustments.
    • Then, I had to consider what it would take to get through a four-mile run on my pace.
    • Some people can run a seven-minute mile. Well, I’m around ten and a half minutes per mile.

Making The Decision To Commit Myself Fully

    • Last year I said I was interested in running the challenge.
    • However, I never did the things necessary to get ready for it.
    • There’s a difference between being interested in something and being committed to something.
    • I just can’t be in the same routine all the time. So eventually, I knew this challenge would be the spark that I needed.

The Reason I Love Getting Comfortable With Being Uncomfortable

    • If I am willing to put myself through something uncomfortable, I can handle challenges better.
    • Too many people are not used to stressful situations.
    • When life’s inevitable curveballs show up, people will go to places that ultimately wreck their lives.
    • I’ve had my fair share of curveballs; however, I can handle the stress by giving myself voluntary stress.

Yes, The 4x4x48 Challenge Is Absolutely Brutal

    • I can’t speak for seasoned marathoners and ultramarathoners; however, it was extremely hard for me.
    • David Goggins wanted it to be hard, and he wanted you to battle your mind.
    • When your mind says it’s time to quit, that’s when you should keep going.
    • The most challenging part is, of course, mental.

How Exactly I Made A Plan To Complete The Challenge

    • I decided to cook all my food ahead of time, so I wouldn’t have to guess what I would eat. I prepared lots of white rice, chicken, and lean fish.
    • Throughout the challenge, some supplements I took were vitamin C, elderberry, and electrolyte tablets.
    • Plus, I ate apples, strawberries, blueberries, and bananas.
    • Lastly, you have to plan to get very little sleep and be very sore.

Leaders Will Stand By Their Word Even When No One Is Watching

    • Leaders always do what they say they’re going to do, even when no one is watching.
    • It is easy to be on our best behavior and look like a star when everybody’s watching.
    • You won’t be able to complete a mental challenge if you’re doing it for everyone else.
    • The only way you’ll be able to complete something like the 4x4x48 challenge is by doing it for yourself.
